Michael Angove Solo Double at the Royal Opera Arcade

Michael Angove

Royal Opera Arcade Gallery

Michael Angove studied textile design at the Royal College of Art and has worked successfully as a textile designer in London for a decade. Concurrently with that career, Michael has always made drawings. While studying for his BA at Winchester School of Art, he won two specific prizes for drawing. As time passed, people who saw his drawings desired to own them. He was encouraged to exhibit them and has since shown at ArtLondon in 2009 and at the 20/21 International Art Fair and the Chelsea Art Fair in 2010. On each occasion, all his work has sold.

His drawings represent his chosen objects, e.g. birds’ eggs, insects, feathers, keys, spoons and string. He employs an extensive array of finely sharpened colour pencils. The drawings are made from life in his studio, shown floating on a neutral, shadowed surface, described by the artist as ‘the empty room’. They are hauntingly evocative of personal memory and meaning.
